About the club.
The club has seen many changes over the years since its humble beginnings back in 1967, it is now run by a team of dedicated local anglers who through their voluntary contributions are keeping the dreams and aspirations of the clubs founders alive.
With the help of clubs voluntary Bailiff team the club has thrust itself into the spotlight several times, and is not only known locally but nationally as a premier grass roots angling destination. The club has produced many exceptional anglers some of whom have gone on to fish at national level representing Wales on the world forum.
We are also proud of our crucian conservation, The Rosie is home to many pure breed crucians which attract anglers from all over the country.
Below are some examples of our most recent major works carried by the clubs’ voluntary team carried out at both our waters
Newly installed platforms at
‘The Rosie’
In 2019 the club decided to invest heavily into enhancing the angling experience at The Rosie and following some successful funding applications were in a position to start work. The clubs mission was to make The Rosie accessible for all, so embarked on a programme of works which would see the old fishing platforms replaced with new up to date and accessible wooden platforms, these would be manufactured to the British Disabled Angling Association (BDAA) standard, all of which would be accessible for wheelchair users and have kickboards and side rails for added safety.
In August 2019 work started and 21 new platforms were introduced which included 5 double width ones so anglers could be accompanied on their peg during their session.
This has also proved popular with parents and guardians who are introducing the next generation of anglers to the sport. It has also helped the club with its programme of free fishing events for local Mental Health Groups and the clubs own Start Early Fish For Life events aimed at children aged 5-15, these events are provided free during the summer school holidays by the clubs voluntary Committee and Bailiff team, bringing the local community together through sport.
New fence and Gate installation at ‘The Rosie’
During 2020, the club invested further and with the agreement of Flintshire County Council a permanent fence encompassing The Rosie was erected, the fence now installed allows the club to meet its safeguarding requirements whilst carrying out the events, not only does it protect the anglers it protects the wider community and also the vast and diverse variety of wildlife in and around the pond.
During the summer of 2021 the club embarked on another much needed improvement for The Rosie, following a successful funding application the club was finally able to start the installation of a new path around the whole perimeter of the lake, this now makes every peg/platform accessible to everyone including those who use wheelchairs, the path leads into each peg which give better and safer access to everyone.
The path was completed in June 2021 and together with the installation of fixed 360’ 24/7 CCTV which monitors and records day and night to provide a safe environment for all members and visitors, and an aeration system to assist with the environmental and fish safety and welfare brings to an end the clubs major works programme.
New Pathway around ‘The Rosie’
During the summer of 2020 Hawarden Estate installed a dedicated pedestrian pathway to the top of the field at The Warren. This was to make access up the hill easier for club members and keep anglers safe by not having to access the field through the farm yard where heavy machinery is in operation. In addition to the path, additional gates were installed to separate anglers from the livestock which frequent the field.
During 2022 Hawarden Estate kindly donated the club materials to manufacture 6 new fishing platforms, this gives anglers a safe, clean and level area to fish from.
Members of the clubs’ committee team built the platforms in readiness for transportation to the lake.
The platforms were fitted by the clubs committee with the assistance of the Estate team and a few helpers in various locations around the lake.
Whilst the new fishing platforms were being installed, new drainage ditches and run off pipes were also installed, this improvement has dramatically improved the path around the lake, and prevents flooding.
New signage was fitted to all access gates at ‘The Warren’ in 2024, these were to replace our old sign that had been in place for 20+ years.
The main notice board at the car park which had succumbed to the winter storms had work carried out to repair it, including a new coat of protective varnish.
