The Warren

The Warren…

The Warren as it is known, is part of the vast Hawarden Estate and is nestled in a secluded woodland across grazing fields behind Cherry Orchard Farm. The formal name for the lake comes from the area it is located and was originally known as Cherry Orchard Fish Pond, due to its location it is now informally known as The Old Warren, shortened further to just The Warren.

Connah’s Quay Angling Club was established in 1967, eventually taking over responsibility to rebuild this fine lake into another premium fishing venue. The lake is just over 2 acres in size and has depths ranging from 3 to 8 feet. The lake has provision limited to 10 anglers who can be permitted to fish at any one time.

In 2017 the lake had major works carried out which involved draining the lake, removing the fish and digging out a massive amount of silt. Since then work has continued around the lake to better establish the aesthetics and provide a better experience for all anglers.

The lake has 9 different species of fish stocked:

Common Carp, Mirror Carp (up to 25lb+), Ghost Carp, Roach, Rudd, Bream, Eels, Perch, Tench.

Fishing is permitted by means of an annual membership only.

The Warren can only be fished by full members of the club.

NO day ticket anglers permitted.

All junior members MUST be accompanied by a senior member at all times whilst at the Warren.

There is a limit of 10 anglers maximum allowed to fish each
day. There is NO general night fishing allowed at the Warren, any member found to be breaching this rule is liable to have their membership cancelled without refund and excluded from re-joining the club.

Fishing is Dawn till Dusk and the water is regularly patrolled by Bailiffs.

A limited number of special night syndicates for night fishing will be made available to full members only, applications for the night syndicate will incur an additional check and will be on a first come first serve basis. Further information will be made available shortly.
